Woo

Along Came 'Woo'

After having Moo we decide it was time we got married. We planned on getting married in January and then trying for baby number 2. However, we did think it would be nice if we could be 3 months pregnant by our wedding day and announce it drink the speeches. As luck would have it, that's exactly what happened.

I was desperate for a VBAC this time around and was happy to do anything in my power to make it happen. I knew it was the safest option for both of us. I was tested for gestational diabetes which came back negative, however, just like last time, my bump grew rapidly.

I had hoped for a home birth to avoid hospital interventions, but based on baby's size, I decided it was best to go to hospital. The hospital agreed to a water birth which was a good compromise I felt. During this time i'd researched the hell out of breastfeeding and was ready to succeed at it. On Sunday 21st July, at 38+1 gestation, my waters broke and I went into labour.

Being in the birthing pool was lovely and completely different from my manic first labour, full of interventions. The labour went as well as I'd hoped.

Using only gas and air, I began pushing after only 3 hours of labour. After a little while, baby's heartbeat began to dip. With this being a VBAC I agreed to get out of the pool for some help as it could've been a sign of scar rupture. Baby's head was born soon after using a ventouse. However, baby's body did not deliver with the next contraction, nor the next one! Her shoulder was stuck in my pelvis. I had to stop pushing, against all instincts and bodily force. A doctor attempted to dislodge the shoulder before I began pushing again. Still no baby. Eventually, 6 minutes after the head delivered, at 4.35am on 22nd July 2013, my baby was born, but she did not respond.
